The Elk Grove Soccer Club Travel Program offers boys and girls travel teams from the Under-8 to the Under-19 age groups. Travel players are chosen based on an open tryout selection process. Travel players are selected for their skills, their desire to compete against higher levels of competition, and their commitment to team play. These teams reflect the quality of EGSC through their sportsmanship and skill development.
The EGSC philosophy states that development and constant improvement is more important than winning. Winning is a byproduct of successful team and individual development. Players, parents, and coaches need to have a commitment to development. This carries over into the travel program, however, unlike at the house level, travel players are NOT guaranteed equal playing time.
Travel games are generally played on Sundays within the Chicagoland area. The league determines each team’s playing level and manages the playing schedules, standings, and competition rules.
The boys travel teams currently play in the Northern Illinois Soccer League – NISL. The NISL is affiliated with the United States Soccer Federation – USSF through the US Club Soccer organization.
The girls travel teams currently play in the Illinois Women’s Soccer League – IWSL. The IWSL is affiliated with the United States Soccer Federation – USSF through the Illinois Youth Soccer Association.
The travel season runs from August to June of the following year. The travel outdoor season has two (2) sessions, fall and spring. The fall session generally runs from August to November, while the spring session generally runs from April to June. EGSC teams, at their own discretion, are eligible to participate in indoor soccer sessions. Coaches, parents, and players shall be responsible to EGSC for their actions anytime a team wears any part of the EGSC travel uniform.
The Executive Board approves the volunteer travel coaches for each outdoor session. Travel coaches must be EGSC members in good standing and possess the required license. Currently, the EGSC requires an “E” coaching license. For further information regarding licensure, please see the Coaches page.
EGSC also encourages each team to have a trainer. The trainer is usually responsible for running practices and improving the players individual and team skills. We have many experienced trainers. For further information, please contact the Director of Boys or Girls Travel.
Players shall be eligible for selection to an EGSC travel team if the player either: lives in Elk Grove Village, lives within the Elk Grove Park District limits, and/or attends an elementary school (K-8) within Elk Grove Village. Each team may select up to five (5) players from outside Elk Grove Village.
Players will be eligible for travel teams based on their birth date. Players that could be grade eligible for two levels may apply to the Director of Boys or Girls Travel for permission to play at the higher age eligible level. Players may tryout for a higher play level if no position is available at the appropriate level. Players will not be allowed to play under the U08 level based on the FIFA birth date guidelines of 08/01 to 07/31 of the following year. Girls are eligible for the boy’s teams, if an appropriate age level team cannot roster enough age appropriate players.
EGSC may form travel teams if there are a sufficient number of fields, quality players, and qualified coaches. The Executive Board is not responsible for providing teams and coaches. The Executive Board shall determine team structure with the emphasis on providing a suitable environment for individual development. The Executive Board may form teams by age, gender, and talent levels in whatever combination provides the greatest benefit for the largest number of players. The Executive Board shall designate multiple teams at an age/gender level an ”A”, “B”, “C”, etcetera based on talent.
Priority for travel team formation shall be:
- Single teams for each age level
- Single teams for each gender within each age level
- Single teams for both gender within each age level
- Single teams for multiple age levels when necessary
- Multiple teams for each age level when the appropriate requirements are met
The travel player is required to pay all fees at the time the player is placed on the leagues roster. In addition, the player must purchase a separate travel uniform. The Executive Board will suspend players from EGSC activities if they do not pay the proper fees.
Specifically, the EGSC requires all players to pay:
- The EGSC registration fee (paid by all EGSC players) charged each session
- The travel team league fee charged each session
- Seeding tournament fees
- Light expenses
- Training expenses
- Or any other expenses incurred by a team
In addition, the player must purchase a separate travel uniform. Travel players, except for the goalkeeper, shall wear the official EGSC travel uniform for all matches. The uniform consists of:
- EGSC Travel Jersey
- EGSC travel short
- EGSC Travel sock
- Shin guards
- Soccer shoes
- Alternate T-Shirts
After the coach has selected a roster and all players are registered, travel teams may begin practice. Travel coaches may conduct three (3), ninety (90) minute practices per week. However, once school begins, coaches will be limited to two (2) ninety (90) minute practices, twice per week. An optional 3rd practice may be conducted; however, players shall not be penalized for not attending the optional practice.
